My Makeup

Even though I'm frequently tempted to swing by the cosmetics counter on a rainy day for a little pick-me-up like a new lip gloss or nail polish, I usually do a lot of research before I invest in any new beauty products. As with everything else, I try to maintain a perfectly edited collection of my favorite things. I feel overwhelmed when I have too much stuff. I recently purged a lot of my old makeup, so now I have a very streamlined makeup bag. It was hard to say goodbye to my old friends, but it was time! My makeup routine is pretty simple and low maintenance. For me, less is more. I love glamorous editorial makeup, but in real life I really admire girls who look effortless and natural.

The most important thing is healthy, radiant skin. I wash my face with Cetaphil. I've tried a lot of cleansers, but it's just the most gentle for sensitive skin. I moisturize with Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate. It's Jane Birkin's face cream, which is all I needed to hear! Then I use an Yves Saint Laurent eye cream, but I think they've discontinued it, so I'm in the market for a new one. For my body, I use Kiehl's Creme de Corps. I also use Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse dry oil all over, even on my hair. It smells like summer and makes me feel like I'm on the French Riviera!

For my hair I use Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo and Conditioner. It makes your hair so silky smooth and I swear it makes my hair grow crazy fast! For summery beach waves, I use Bumble and bumble Surf Spray. My hair is naturally slightly wavy, so I just spritz a little into my damp hair and then braid it or put it up in two buns. It's nice not to have to use a blow dryer in the warm weather! My hair is also naturally fine, so I love the texture it creates! For straightening, I like Kiehl's Heat-Protective Silk Straightening Cream. For hair spray I use L'Oreal Elnett Satin Hairspray. It's what all the hair stylists use backstage at the shows. It has incredible hold, but disappears at the stroke of a brush.

For my face I use Laura Mercier Primer and Tinted Moisturizer in Porcelain. Even in the middle of the summer, I'm the lightest color there is! I wish I could tan, but it's just not in the cards for me! The tinted moisturizer is so incredibly light, you forget you're wearing it unlike most foundations that feel like a mask. And it has SPF20, which is perfect because I hate how sunscreen feels so greasy on my face (burning is in the cards!). I use YSL Touche Eclat in No. 1 Luminous Radiance, which is better than any beauty sleep! For a finished look I use translucent powder. Loose is Laura Mercier and pressed is Chanel. I also use Chanel brushes and clean them once a week with Johnson's Baby Shampoo.

For Blush I use Nars The Multiple in Orgasm. It's the perfect peachy pink, with a little gold shimmer. The Multiple stick are great because you can use them all over your face. I use it as a highlighter under my brow and sometimes as an eyeshadow if I'm running out the door. Since I don't tan at all, I rely on an amazing bronzer for a little color, which is Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzing Powder in Brunettes. It gives you the most natural, healthy sun kissed glow.

For eyelashes I use Shu Uemura's eyelash curler. It really is the best and worth every penny for big Bambi eyes! I've tried every different kind of mascara there is - Chanel, Dior, Lancome, etc. - and my favorite is L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes in black. You can buy it in the drug store for $5. Its what Julia Restoin Roitfeld and Carine Roitfeld use. Who doesn't love a good deal? I wear black eyeliner every day. It's my desert island beauty item. I feel naked without it! I'll use a Guerlain pencil and then dust over it with black eyeshadow for a seamless line. I've recently fallen for Mac Fluidline gel eyeliner in Blacktrack. Makeup artist extraordinaire Kristofer Buckle told me on Twitter that he used it to create Blake Lively's stunning Brigitte Bardot look for Glamour. With an angled brush, it's so much easier to apply than liquid eyeliner and it stays put until you take it off. I tend to keep my eyeshadow fairly neutral. My current favorite is Nars Duo Eyeshadow in Bellissima.

I had perpetually chapped lips until I discovered Caudalie Lip Conditioner. Now my lips are so soft and kissable! I never really wore lipstick until I discovered YSL Rouge Volupte. I love the intensely pigmented color and the luxurious Art Deco case. And it stays on forever. This summer I've been wearing a gorgeous fuchsia color called Paris Rose. I just got Red Muse for fall. It really is the perfect shade of red lipstick. For lip glosses I like Chanel and Guerlain Kiss Kiss. I don't use lip liner, but I do use Guerlain's in Cupidon. It's used to highlight your cupid's bow. The effect is very subtle, but very beautiful. It's such a little luxury!

For nails, I love Chanel. Who doesn't? It's all the chicness of Chanel wrapped up in a little, affordable bottle. I'm always first on the waiting list for next season's colors! I just got Graphite for fall and I'm so smitten! My favorite fragrances are also Chanel. I especially love Coco Mademoiselle and Allure. And Chanel No. 5 adds a great sense of occasion to any day!

I've been dying to try products from Aesop, Cowshed, and KohGenDoh, but alas, I cannot find them in Vancouver! Can anyone recommend them? Speaking of samples, if you live in the US, check out Birchbox!
